Note that all stick pin icons are eBird reports since March 1, 2017, and the red ones are the subset in the last 30 days, since April 4th, 2017.
During this period of March 1-May 4, 2017 it appears that N. Gannets have been everywhere along the US east coast, all the way down to Florida and west to Houston, Texas...
FYI, in the thirty years from 1950 to 1980 there were only 2 eBird reports of Gannets from Texas in the March-May months.
And in this same 30-year time period there were few Gannets reported via eBird in S.New England...
Of course you will wonder how many old trip reports have been retroactively contributed to and accepted by eBird in the 1950-1980 time period (decades before eBird was created), so we looked for a standard of comparison, and chose Herring Gull for that same time period, in this map...
Notice that plenty of Herring Gulls have been reported to eBird for this 1950-1980 time period, and few if any reports (aka checklists) included seeing any Gannets, so we can conclude that relatively few Gannets were seen in LIS during this 30 year period (which is consistent with my recollections from those old days), from March 1 to May 4th, and certainly a lot less than the hundreds we have seen in LIS in the last month or two.
