In the several LIS locations where these large gull flocks have been seen, they can be very EPHEMERAL. A 2 hour visit in the morning could yield few gulls and a return visit in the afternoon could yield 100s or 1000s, depending perhaps on tides, weather, and other factors we do not understand. This is a very scattered phenomenon, which we are trying to sample, to learn more about it.
